The redesign of 'Me Before You' trilogy features flat-lay photography and vintage typography, creating visually engaging covers with hidden clues.
In my redesign of the book series trilogy "Me Before You" by JoJo Moyes, I wanted to create something fresh that conveyed the essence of each book without giving away any spoilers.
I noticed that there were already versions with vector illustrations and typography-based covers, so I decided to try something more tactile and visually engaging. I opted for flat-lay photography for each cover.
Each photograph featured objects carefully arranged to symbolize elements from the story, with the series number subtly integrated into each layout—like a number "1" on a check pad, a "2" on a wine cork, and a "3" on a measuring tape.
This approach gave the covers a sense of depth and invited readers to find the hidden clues. To connect the covers across the trilogy, I used a consistent typographic style for the book titles. I sourced this from a vintage Innes Alphabets book for advertising, which I found at an estate sale. The font, California, added a unique, retro touch that made the titles stand out.
Each cover included subtle but meaningful objects related to the story. For example, roses appeared on each cover to represent the significant relationships of the main character throughout the trilogy. These small details gave fans something to appreciate while ensuring new readers could enjoy the books without any spoilers.
Overall, the redesigned covers aimed to create a sense of curiosity and nostalgia while reflecting the themes of the trilogy. They used a mix of classic typography and meaningful objects to engage readers and convey the tone of the stories within.
