As I cull through the 2,624 photos I took on our Scotland trip, I quickly realized Scotland loves serifs & I'm here for it.
My husband and I took a road trip through Lithuania, Latvia, & Estonia. The street art was beautiful.
I always notice the stone patterns when walking around the city.
Copenhagen was filled with beautiful colors, street art, fun brand design, and a variety of typography.
While living in Germany, I found my love for graphic design. Typography and patterns would catch my eye when exploring new places. Most of my travel photos consist of well, food and what I know now to be graphic design. Then, I knew each place had its own vibe and look, but now I know each place had its own visual identity.
When we moved back to the states and I started studying graphic design at Oklahoma State University. I was able to use some of those travel photos for a project in my Typography I class. The project was called Good Type. The brief was to find typography in the wild, photograph it, make a book and explain what you liked about the typeface.
Although this project might not be a portfolio piece, since it was at the beginning of my student career, it still deserves a moment on the blog.
This project made me realize my love for graphic design before I fully understood what graphic design was. Taking photos of typography in chocolate shops, storefronts, and food halls, it confirms to me just how much design is important in the world and how regular ole people like myself take notice.
